About International Epilepsy Day

 International Epilepsy Day (IED) is celebrated annually on the second Monday in February, this year on February 13 (2023). 

 This day is an opportunity to educate the public and gain a better understanding of diseases, symptoms and treatments. Day 

 is a joint initiative of the International Epilepsy Office (IBE) and the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE). It started in 2015.

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय एपिलेप्सी (मिर्गी) दिवस

प्रत्येक वर्ष फरवरी के दूसरे सोमवार को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय एपिलेप्सी (मिर्गी) दिवस (IED) के रूप में मनाया जाता है, और इस वर्ष यह 13 फरवरी (2023) को मनाया गया। 

यह दिवस आम लोगों को शिक्षित करने और रोग, इसके लक्षणों एवं उपचार के बारे में अधिक समझने का अवसर प्रदान करता है। 

यह दिन इंटरनेशनल ब्यूरो फॉर एपिलेप्सी (IBE) और इंटरनेशनल लीग अगेंस्ट एपिलेप्सी (ILAE) की एक संयुक्त पहल है। इसकी शुरुआत वर्ष 2015 में हुई थी।

Epilepsy: 

 Epilepsy is a disorder of the central nervous system in which brain activity becomes abnormal, resulting in seizures or abnormal behavior, sensations, and sometimes cognitive impairment. 

 Epilepsy is defined as two or more unprovoked seizures. 

 Epilepsy is one of the oldest recognized disorders in the world, with written records dating back to 4000 BC. 

 About 50 million people worldwide suffer from epilepsy, and it is one of the most common neurological disorders in the world. 

 About 6 million people in India suffer from epilepsy. 

 Anyone can develop epilepsy, but it is more common in young children and the elderly. 

 Epilepsy cannot be cured, but it can be controlled with medication and other strategies. 

 Epilepsy, The World Health Organization (WHO) published an urgent public health report in 2019. 

 This is the first global report on epilepsy and summarizes the available evidence on the burden of epilepsy and the response of public health needed globally and regionally. 

 WHO's Mental Health Gap Action Program (mhGAP) aims to increase the provision of essential services for mental, neurological and substance use disorders, particularly in low-income countries or means

एपिलेप्सी (मिर्गी):

एपिलेप्सी (मिर्गी) एक केंद्रीय तंत्रिका तंत्र संबंधी विकार है, इसमें मस्तिष्क की गतिविधि असामान्य हो जाती है, जिससे दौरे या असामान्य व्यवहार, संवेदनाएँ और कभी-कभी अभिज्ञता संबंधी हानि होती है। 

मिर्गी को दो या दो से अधिक अकारण दौरे पड़ने के रूप में परिभाषित किया गया है।

मिर्गी दुनिया की सबसे पुरानी मान्यता प्राप्त स्थितियों में से एक है, जिसके लिखित रिकॉर्ड 4000 ईसा पूर्व के हैं।

दुनिया भर में लगभग 50 मिलियन लोग मिर्गी से ग्रसित हैं, जो विश्व स्तर पर सबसे आम न्यूरोलॉजिकल रोगों में से एक है।

भारत में लगभग 60 लाख लोग मिर्गी से ग्रसित हैं।

कोई भी व्यक्ति मिर्गी रोग से ग्रस्त हो सकता है, लेकिन यह छोटे बच्चों और बड़े वयस्कों में अधिक आम है।

मिर्गी का कोई इलाज़ नहीं है, लेकिन इस विकार को दवाओं और अन्य रणनीतियों द्वारा नियंत्रित किया जा सकता है।

वर्ष 2019 में विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (WHO) द्वारा मिर्गी (एपिलेप्सी), एक सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य अनिवार्यता रिपोर्ट जारी की गई थी।

यह मिर्गी पर पहली वैश्विक रिपोर्ट है जिसमें मिर्गी के बोझ तथा वैश्विक, क्षेत्रीय और राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर आवश्यक सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य प्रतिक्रिया पर उपलब्ध साक्ष्य का सारांश प्रस्तुत किया गया है।

WHO मेंटल हेल्थ गैप एक्शन प्रोग्राम (mhGAP) का उद्देश्य विशेष रूप से निम्न और मध्यम आय वाले देशों के लिये मानसिक, न्यूरोलॉजिकल व मादक द्रव्यों के सेवन विकारों हेतु आवश्यक सेवाओं की आपूर्ति को बढ़ाना है।
